The project included a nine-floor renovation and curtain wall infill expansion of the historically significant GSA Central Office Building at 1800 F Street in downtown Washington. The building, which was constructed in 1917 and last upgraded in 1935, was selected for modernization into a high-performance green building through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Phase 1 funding. The design includes open-spaced office plans as well as a child development center, an auditorium, a cafeteria, a conference center and a fitness center. As part of the new construction, atriums in the courtyards were enclosed, which added 134,000 square feet for a total 858,000 square feet.
